SOUTH LYON RESIDENT CROWNED MRS. MICHIGAN UNITED STATES 2011
Trenton, MI - May 21, 2011 – South Lyon resident Annette Kelly was named Mrs. Michigan United States® 2011 on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the Trenton Village Theatre in Trenton, Michigan. Holding the title of Mrs. Southeastern Michigan, Annette was one of eight regional delegates who were judged in the areas of personal interview, physical fitness in swimsuit, onstage question, and evening gown. She will now represent the Great Lakes state at the Mrs. United States® Pageant to be held July 28 - August 4, 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Mrs. United States® Pageant has been the premier pageant for married women since 1986 and is celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year. Mrs. Michigan United States® 2011 will be one of 53 contestants from across the United States that will be evaluated on beauty, charm, personality, poise, and the ability to articulate. Contestants participate in a personal interview with the distinguished panel of judges and on stage in evening gown and physical fitness in swimsuit competitions. The winner of the Mrs. United States® Pageant will receive cash and prizes as well as the opportunity to travel the nation for a year as a role model and spokesperson for married women.
During her year as Mrs. Michigan United States® 2011, Annette plans to be very active promoting her platform, "Parents Plus, Restoring Hope for Parents with Special Needs Children". This outreach program is designed to provide a voice for mothers of special needs children and was inspired by Annette's personal journey with her two sons.
Annette serves as an advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the Michigan Autism Insurance Reform Coalition. She has been married to Dan for nine years. They are blessed with two sons, Jack (six) and William (three).

MRS. MICHIGAN UNITED STATES 2011 TO BE CROWNED
Trenton, MI - May 1, 2011 – The downriver area will soon be buzzing with excitement as the Mrs. Michigan United States Pageant returns to the Trenton Village Theatre in Trenton on Saturday, May 21, 2011. Delegates from all over Michigan will be vying for the crown and competing in interview, onstage question, swimsuit, and evening gown competitions. The pageant will be hosted by reigning Mrs. Michigan United States 2010 Kyla Marcial of Clinton Township. This year, the pageant marks its 25th anniversary with a theme of "Michigan, My Michigan! America, My Home!"and features an upbeat, colorful production full of patriotic song and dance numbers reflecting pride in Michigan and hope for the future. The pageant will be televised in the metro-Detroit area.
Kristina Austin Scarcelli, Executive Director and Producer of the pageant and a former Mrs. Michigan United States, is expecting the event to generate a lot of public interest again this year. "This is much more than just a beauty pageant and the private interview competition accounts for 50 percent of the total score," she stated. "The woman who wins will be a very well-spoken, well-rounded individual who will serve as an ambassador for the state of Michigan at a time when we need positive role models in our communities the most."
Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the curtain goes up at 7:00 p.m. on May 21st for the pageant at the Trenton Village Theatre, located at 2447 West Jefferson Avenue in Trenton. Advance sale tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under and can be purchased online at www.mrsmichiganunitedstates.com or by calling 734.398.7758. Tickets at the door will be $20 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under.
In addition to the May 21st pageant, the Mrs. Michigan United States Pageant contestants will also be appearing in downtown Wyandotte during the Third Friday Festival on Friday, May 20th. Mrs. Michigan United States 2010 and the 2011 contestants will entertain the festival audience on the Biddle Avenue stage at 6:00 p.m. and will also be signing autographs and posing for photographs.
The Mrs. Michigan United States Pageant is a preliminary to the national Mrs. United States Pageant, which has been held annually in Las Vegas since 1986. Mrs. Michigan United States 2011 will be the recipient of a prize package valued at nearly $15,000 including an expense-paid trip to represent our state at the national pageant along with 53 other state and U.S. territory delegates. The pageant is an independent production and private rental of the Trenton Village Theatre / Downriver Youth Performing Arts Center, and is not a DYPAC youth theatre production.
