We're sorry, but no information regarding specific title availability can be provided until an approved applicant's paid-in-full entry fee and signed Delegate Agreement have been received. There is absolutely no hierarchy regarding the assigned titles. Title assignments do not affect the judges' decisions in any way and are not factored into any scoring whatsoever.

Our title assignment program serves a specific purpose. It is designed to provide an avenue for you to promote yourself and your title through appearances in your community that will help you develop the public speaking and interview skills that are crucial to success at the state and national pageants. We encourage all delegates to make the most of this exciting opportunity!

How is the competition order determined?

When do delegates wear their banners?

All delegates will be expected to wear their banners at all offstage events beginning with registration and through to the conclusion of the afterglow celebration. You will also wear your banner during the private interview competition, so please practice wearing it with your interview wardrobe. Your banner can be the source of unnecessary distraction or stress if you don’t practice with it in advance! Onstage, banners will be worn ONLY during the opening production number and Onstage Question competition.

If for any reason a delegate’s banner is damaged, lost, or stolen prior to pageant weekend, a replacement must be purchased at the delegate’s expense ($46 plus shipping). During pageant weekend, delegates will only be permitted to wear the standard regional delegate appearance banner issued to them by the pageant office. Any deluxe banners purchased by delegates cannot be worn at the state pageant.

Do delegates have the option of purchasing ads in the program book? Can delegates obtain sponsors to help cover their expenses?

Our delegate program book advertising opportunity is strictly optional, but it is crucial to your success in obtaining sponsorships to help you offset your entry fee and other competition expenses. We have intentionally kept our program book advertising rates low to allow delegates to purchase ad pages at cost and sell them to sponsors at a profit. Program book advertising rates for delegates are as follows:
  • Black and White Full-Page Ad - $100
  • Black and White Half-Page Ad- $50
  • Black and White Quarter-Page Ad - $25
  • Black and White Business Card Ad - $15
Here are some helpful examples of the program book advertising opportunity at work: $500 is fair market value for a full-page program book ad at the state level. You can sell one full-page ad to a major sponsor at that price and the remaining $400 is your profit. Another idea is to purchase two full-page ads, sell two half-page ads on each page to businesses or organizations for $200 each, for a total ad sale of $800, and your profit is $600! Or, you can purchase one full-page ad featuring your photo and a listing of several sponsors. You determine how much to ask for each sponsorship. So, if you have 30 sponsors at $25 each for your full-page ad, your profit is $650! This type of sponsorship works particularly well for family and friends and to compensate businesses that sponsor you with free products or services.

The possibilities are endless, so be creative! There is absolutely no limit to the dollar amount of sponsorships that you can obtain, you may use your sponsorship monies in any way that you and your sponsors see fit, and you may purchase as many ads you like! Sponsorships can be obtained through family, friends, local businesses, or civic and social clubs and organizations. You might want to try your hair salon, dry cleaner, insurance or real estate agent, pharmacy, car dealer, doctor, dentist, and local Chamber of Commerce. Also consider approaching area retailers and restaurants that you frequent. Your local businesses will support you in your dream of becoming Mrs. Michigan United States®, but you must get out there and ask! They will not come to you!

These trophies could be YOURS! All delegate sponsors will also receive a business card ad and a link to their website on their delegate's biography page on the Mrs. Michigan United States® website and a listing as a sponsor for their delegate in the 2012 Mrs. Michigan United States® Pageant program book delegate biography pages.

All approved applicants will receive an email with a password for our secure contestants' area, where you will be able to download our official delegate sponsorship packet, which includes full-color tri-fold Mrs. Michigan United States® Pageant brochure, cover letter, sponsorship packages listing, sponsor agreement, advertising reservation form, and sample ad layouts. While these official forms can be provided only to approved applicants, you are free to begin soliciting sponsorships via program book ad sales at any time, so don’t delay and start today!

Remember, all program book ads are tax-deductible as an advertising expense.

How is the pageant judged?

Competition is based on personality, charm, poise, physical fitness, overall beauty, the ability to articulate, and national pageant potential. A contestant should possess a good attitude, self-confidence, maturity, poise, and composure.

Very diverse women of all ages have gone on to win the Mrs. Michigan United States® title and having children is not a factor in judging. We will have five distinguished judges of differing backgrounds who are knowledgeable about pageants. The names of our judges will not be released until pageant weekend.

Judged Events: Contestants will be judged in interview (50%), swimsuit (20%), evening gown (20%), and onstage impromptu question (10%). There is no final ballot. The winners of the interview, swimsuit, and evening gown phases of competition will be presented with an award onstage during the coronation ceremony.
  • Interview: The private interview is the judges' first impression of your personality, your intellect, your integrity, your honesty, your conversant ability, and your commitment to the things that matter to you most. Keep in mind that the Mrs. United States® title is a public relations job. Your interview will be a relaxed, conversational meeting with a group of people who are interested in seeing how well you can present yourself in social settings and to the press.

Each interview will be five minutes in length. You will be seated before the panel of judges. You will begin by presenting a brief (under 45 seconds) introduction and then the conversation will begin. At the completion of the five minutes, you will be given the opportunity to conclude your interview if you wish. The majority of questions you will be asked will come directly from you bio sheet, so please be cognizant of this when preparing your documentation. Also be prepared to discuss timely topics regarding marriage, family, and parenting (if applicable).

Generally speaking, pageant interview attire consists of a suit or day dress that is, perhaps, a bit more formal than one would wear to an office setting. Your interview suit need not be expensive, however, do choose a color and a style that are flattering to you and make sure that your ensemble fits!

  • Onstage Question: After briefly introducing herself to the audience by sharing why she is pursuing the Mrs. Michigan United States® title, each contestant will be presented with an impromptu question onstage. The questions will be prepared in advance by the pageant staff and will not be provided to the contestants beforehand. Each delegate will select her own question at random. The focus of the onstage questions will be topics that impact marriage and family in today's society. This allows you to display your grace under pressure and how quickly you can think on your feet. At the Mrs. United States® Pageant, the Top Ten are judged in this area, so this is your best opportunity to practice for the national pageant.

  • Physical Fitness in Swimsuit: Our delegates will compete in their choice of a moderately cut, solid color one-piece or two-piece swimsuit. No string bikinis will be permitted. Swimsuits with piping / trim of contrasting color are acceptable. Pantyhose are optional. A sarong-type wrap is required. The sarong may be either solid or multi-colored. Taupe or clear acrylic sandals are recommended with your swimsuit.

  • Evening Gown: You will be expected to wear a full-length gown in a style and color that best compliments you. Please do not feel compelled to spend a tremendous amount of money. The judges will not be evaluating the value of your gown! Rather, concentrate on finding a gown that represents your uniqueness and that fits you perfectly. Your husband will be escorting you during this very elegant and romantic segment. He will be asked to wear a dark suit of his choosing. Tuxedos are not required. If your husband is unable to attend, you may make arrangements for another family member to escort you.

What non-judged events will take place on stage?

In order to prepare our delegates as much as possible for the national competition, we have endeavored to make our state pageant as much like the Mrs. United States® Pageant experience as possible. In addition, a detailed survey was conducted in the fall of 2006 where aspiring delegates provided us with their input on a variety of subjects. We have taken every preference and suggestion into consideration when planning this production. This is YOUR pageant!

  • Opening Number: The theme of the 2012 pageant production will be ""A Tribute to Motown". Our opening production number will feature each contestant wearing a cocktail-length dress of her choosing in bright 50s / 60s inspired colors of yellow, pink, and green. No other colors will be permitted and no floor length gowns will be permitted. Patterns within designated color scheme are acceptable provided they contain no other colors. Sequins, beads, rhinestones, feathers, fur, and other embellishments are all acceptable and encouraged. You can find inspiration from the movie "Dream Girls" or any images of Diana Ross and the Supremes or other Motown girl groups for your opening number outfit. The choreography will be very simple and we will have a staff choreographer to assist you in learning the routine.

During the opening number, you will introduce yourself to the audience and give a 10-second narration about the region, county, or city that you represent. Your narration should relate something fun, unusual, witty, or even downright humorous. (But, please, nothing that could be deemed offensive.) Please think back to the Miss America Pageant where delegates introduced their states with such quips as: “When you come here, your money stays here and we love you for that, proud to represent the great city of Las Vegas, I’m Miss Nevada” and “I’m Miss Washington, how do you like them apples?” and “Virginia is for lovers, so show me some love, I’m Miss Virginia.” Your opening number narration may not be longer than 10 seconds, so please rehearse and time your script in advance.

Although this area is not included in the formal judging, we will segue from the opening production number immediately to the Onstage Question competition, so choose a dress that reflects your personality, makes you feel confident, and does not distract you in any way.

  • Closing Number: You will also participate in a very simple parade in your evening gowns for the closing production number. This will also include live performances by featured dancers and singers. This year, you will also have the opportunity to sing background vocals as a chorus or lip-sync if you prefer. The lyrics and music for the closing production number are downloadable in the contestants’ only area of the website.

What is the schedule for pageant weekend?

Below you will find the pageant Weekend Schedule of Events. (Firm times will be announced after entries close.)

  • Friday:
  • Delegates check into the host hotel beginning at 3:00 p.m. Activities will adjourn no later than 11:30 p.m. to allow delegates a good night's rest for a very busy day on Saturday.

    • Registration: Arrive at the Hospitality Room of the host hotel, Holiday Inn Express Woodhaven, for registration. Family members are welcomed to attend. Staff photographers will be present to take arrival photos on our red carpet runaway, so dress casual wear is appropriate and please wear your banners. At registration, you will sign in and be greeted by pageant staff. You will also be given your delegate gift bag at this time.

    • Third Friday Appearance: Immediately following registration, delegates will be transported courtesy of Wilson Luxury Limousines, official transportation of the Mrs. Michigan United States Pageant, to downtown Wyandotte for the Third Friday Festival. This event is open to the public. There, the reigning queen and 2012 delegates will appear on the Maple Street stage by the clock tower. They will each introduce themselves to the crowd and share why they are pursuing the Mrs. Michigan United States title. Afterward, there will be opportunities to sign autographs, pose for photos for the press and the public, take trolley car and horse and buggy rides, and shop with the many downtown vendors and pageant sponsors. Delegates who have autograph sheets or headshots should bring them and shoes should be comfortable enough to walk in. An umbrella is also recommended in case of inclement weather. Delegates will then be transported back to the host hotel.

    • Orientation Dinner: Immediately following the Third Friday appearance, there will be an informal buffet dinner for delegates and their husbands in the Hospitality Room of the host hotel. After the meal, there will be a very brief seminar hosted by our reigning queen and the Executive Director / Producer to discuss the itinerary, production details, dressing room assignments, rules and regulations, and answer any questions.

If you have children who will require supervision while you and your husband attend orientation, we can make arrangements for child care. There is no additional charge for this service however, please make reservations for your youngster(s) in advance.

    • Delegates' Pajama Party: Immediately following orientation, there will be a brief fellowship party for delegates only in the Great Room of the host hotel, hosted by the reigning queen and the Executive Director. Here, delegates will exchange gifts, indulge in chocolately treats, and play fun games including a contest for the most outrageous PJs!

  • Saturday:
  • Activities will begin in the morning and will continue until the conclusion of the evening's afterglow celebration. You will be spending the entire day at the theatre, so please bring with you everything you will need for the day. Delegates will not be permitted to leave the theatre at any time until the conclusion of the pageant.

    • Rehearsals: Attire for rehearsals should be dress casual but comfortable (particularly your shoes). You will also wear your banner during rehearsals. Please bring your entire competition wardrobe with you at this time. You will be given an opportunity to set up in your assigned dressing room area and then report to the stage.

We ask that whomever will be escorting you in the evening gown competition be on hand for the start of rehearsal so that this area of competition can be reviewed first. Again, if you have children who will require supervision while you and your escort rehearse the evening gown section, we will have snacks and activities for the children in the theatre kitchen. There is no additional charge for this service, however, please make reservations for your youngster(s) in advance. Immediately after evening gown rehearsal, your escort will be excused and the remainder of rehearsal will be closed to the public.

    • Interviews: Throughout the day, while we review the various phases of the competition and rehearse the opening number and production with the choreographer, you will be excused in small groups to prepare for and participate in your private interview with the judges. Immediately following your interview, you will be asked to report back to the stage to resume rehearsing. Once rehearsal and interviews are complete, you will be served a light dinner in the theatre gallery and then will be excused to go backstage and prepare for the pageant. Delegates will not be permitted to leave the theatre until after the pageant.

    • Pre-Pageant and Showtime: Please, due to limited space and liability issues, there will be absolutely no guests or helpers permitted backstage! We will have hair, makeup, and wardrobe assistants backstage whose duties will be to assist all of the delegates. Delegates are more than welcome to enlist the assistance of their own hair and makeup artists, but this must be done at the host hotel prior to arriving at the theatre.

    • Post-Pageant: All delegates will be asked to stay on the stage until they are dismissed in order to greet the press and for photos. You will then be asked to quickly vacate the dressing rooms and join us for the afterglow celebration at Savannah's Restaurant, located just a few doors north of the theatre at 2156 West Jefferson Avenue in Trenton.

A competition platform is not a requirement at either the state or national levels but is highly recommended. Choosing a cause to champion as a Mrs. titleholder gives you a sense of purpose during your reign, provides you with a multitude of appearance opportunities to improve your public speaking and media relations skills, and promotes the validity of pageant competition as a venue for self expression for all women. And while making yourself a more well-rounded and focused woman, you will be helping to make the world a better place to live!

Delegates wishing to be considered for this award must complete the commitment to the arts essay form. This judging takes place immediately following the completion of all delegates' interviews.

When and where does the national pageant take place?

The Mrs. United States® Pageant is held each July (tentative dates July 8 - 13, 2012) in Las Vegas, Nevada. Last year's production marked the 25th anniversary of the Mrs. United States® Pageant.

At the Mrs. United States® Pageant, Mrs. Michigan United States® will be one of 54 contestants from across the United States that will be evaluated on beauty, charm, personality, poise, and the ability to articulate. Contestants participate in a personal interview with the distinguished panel of judges and on stage in evening gown and physical fitness in swimsuit competitions. The winner of the Mrs. United States® Pageant will receive cash and prizes as well as the opportunity to travel the nation for a year as a role model and spokesperson for married women.

The Mrs. United States® Pageant annually pays tribute to married women throughout the United States for their strength, beauty, intelligence, and resilience. The Mrs. United States® Pageant acknowledges the fact that married women are an inspiration to families, friends, colleagues and community. The roles of wife, mother and career woman do not prevent her from community involvement or from maintaining health, beauty, and mind.
