Monica MacKenzie, Mrs. East Central Michigan United States® 2008
Monica holds a Master's Degree in nursing from MSU and practices family medicine as a certified nurse practitioner. She is in the midst of a two-year term with the National Health Service Corps, an organization dedicated to providing healthcare to every American regardless of gender, financial status or ethnicity. Monica is an advocate for healthcare as a right not a privilege! She has worked on healthcare bills with Senator Barcia and was the first nurse practitioner on staff at Bay Regional Medical Center.
Monica's main focus in life is her family. After an whitewater rafting trip, Matthew purposed to her on the top of a gorgeous cliff. They have now been married for seven years. As a couple, they believe in instilling values of honesty and humanity within their two children; Austin (6) and Carmyn (3). Monica volunteers for the Helen M. Nickless Free Clinic, Nathan Weidner Foundation, Bay County Boys and Girl's Club, Paint for Pride, Crop Walk, Christmas out reach programs, and as assistant soccer coach and a clinical instructor/mentor for the University of Michigan and Saginaw Valley State University.
Monica has also enjoyed being a spokesperson for women's boxing (which landed her on the cover of the Detroit Free Press), a college cheerleader for SVSU, modeling with her daughter at local fashion shows for Younkers and Fashion Bug, and hosting the 2007 Bay Regional Medical Center annual conference for women entitled, "It's All About the Working You."
